MA RAINEY’S BLACK BOTTOM

Director: George C. Wolfe
Starring: Viola Davis, Chadwick Boseman, Colman Domingo, Glynn Turman, Michael Potts, Jeremy Shamos, Taylour Paige

Chadwick Boseman has forever left a lasting impression on the film industry. His final performance in Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom is the bookend to a beautiful life and career. Viola Davis tackles the title role of the Mother of Blues, Ma Rainey. Crowds come in droves to see in her Georgia. She’s not as widely recognized when she lands in Chicago for a recording session. She’s late and the same can be said for her horn player Levee, played by Chadwick Boseman. The majority of this film takes place within the walls of this studio with Ma’s strict demands and Levee’s push to be taken seriously causing friction amongst everyone involved.

Streaming on Netflix December 18. Here’s my review
