DOWNTON ABBEY

Director: Michael Engler
Starring: Michelle Dockery, Maggie Smith, Elizabeth McGovern, Hugh Bonneville, Allen Leach, Imelda Staunton, Joanne Froggatt, Robert James-Collier, Penelope Wilton, Laura Carmichael, Brendan Coyle, Jim Carter, Phyllis Logan

Focus Features has revealed the first full-length trailer for Downtown Abbey. The television series became a cultural phenomenon when it aired on Masterpiece on PBS from 2010-2016. The six season series became appointment viewing for people who couldn’t get enough of the Granthams, Crawleys, and the wickedly clever Dowager Countess, played by Maggie Smith. Heaven forbid if you missed it and read a spoiler the next morning. The castle provided that picturesque getaway into the lavish lifestyle they lived along with everyone else who worked there.  Creator Julian Fellows is back to write the film’s screenplay, and this trailer feels like we’re right back in the castle again. We see all of our favorite characters reuniting and preparing for the arrival of the King and Queen.  It feels like this is meant to be a standalone story as opposed to picking up with the story lines of the last season. This will bode well for those who haven’t seen the series or may not remember what happened.

Hearing that Downton Abbey theme made me realize how much I missed these characters, and I am really looking forward to what the movie has in store. What are your first reactions? Come follow me on Twitter @PaulsMovieTrip and let me know your thoughts!
