Here they are! The nominations for the 88th Academy Awards. I posted my predictions and they were closer than I had expected, especially in the acting categories! There are not a lot of surprises this morning with The Revenant leading the pack with 12 nominations and Mad Max Fury Road and The Martian scoring multiple nominations as well. I’m really surprised to see Ridley Scott left off the list for Best Director for his work on The Martian. He seemed to be a lock at this point. I was very happy to see Tom Hardy listed for Best Supporting Actor for The Revenant. He didn’t receive a Golden Globe or SAG nomination, but I knew The Revenant was gaining recent momentum. Frankly, I’d give the award to him. Bummed to see Paul Dano (Love & Mercy) left out in that category as well. I also expected see Carol nominated for Best Picture. It’s such a beautiful film that seemed like Oscar gold. It’s stars Cate Blanchett and Rooney Mara were both nominated.

The Oscars will air on ABC on February 28 with Chris Rock hosting.

What are your first impressions? Who are you looking forward to seeing win that night? Feel free to sound off below.
