THE RIP

Director: Joe Carnahan
Starring: Matt Damon, Ben Affleck, Teyana Taylor, Steven Yeun, Catalina Sandino Moreno, Kyle Chandler, Sasha Calle, Scott Adkins

Matt Damon and Ben Affleck are back at it producing and starring in the Netflix action film, The Rip. There’s a reassuring quality at hand when Damon and Affleck work together under their production company. Whether it’s their movie Air about Air Jordans or The Rip, they work with a solid story and give equitable pay to those in front of and behind the camera. The Rip comes with a fairly simple story, but it’s executed well. A Miami police captain working in narcotics is shot down by two masked men. Before she’s shot, she’s on the phone with someone saying, “I’m the only cop you can trust…Don’t trust anyone.” This is a story about trust. Matt Damon stars as Lieutenant Dane Dunmars and Ben Affleck stars as Detective Sergeant J.D. Byrne, both work for Miami PD and knew the victim. They want answers, they want more involvement from the Feds, but they’re not getting it. Kyle Chandler also stars as a DEA agent as this seems to involve a drug cartel. Lieutenant Dane receives a Crimestoppers tip regarding stolen drug money that’s hidden in a house in the quiet suburb of Hialeah. They gather their team which also includes Steven Yeun, Teyana Taylor and Catalina Sandino Moreno and a money sniffing dog. What they find is roughly $20 million in buckets hidden in the attic. It’s far more money than any other rip they’ve intercepted, and now, Dane Dunmars goes rogue confiscating their phones and refusing to call it in to headquarters. Now streaming on Netflix
