WICKED FOR GOOD

Audiences have been changed for good because of both Wicked movies. Expectations were massive when the first Wicked film came out to bring the beloved Broadway musical to life on the big screen. Audiences went WILD for it. Droves of people went to the theaters in groups or dressed as their favorite characters to see Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande soar. It was a HUGE hit, and thus, I think expectations were even higher for Wicked For Good to match what came before. I think some people were surprised at the massive swings the second act of the musical takes in terms of storytelling and its connections to The Wizard of Oz. It’s darker, the stakes are higher, and these characters have matured and evolved. Universal Pictures is proud to release Wicked For Good on 4K, Blu-Ray, DVD, and Digital for you to add to your home. library and watch over and over again. The new release comes with the theatrical edition and a Sing-Along version.

The first Wicked movie was only the first act of the Broadway musical, and Wicked For Good is the second act now played out on the big screen. Writer Winnie Holzman and director Jon M. Chu have fleshed it out a bit more and have taken some bigger risks. We know that Cynthia Erivo’s Elphaba has flown off, now in hiding as she plots her next move. The Wizard’s work manipulating the Ozians marches on as he builds the Yellow Brick Road. Meanwhile, Glinda (played to perfection by Ariana Grande) is reveling in the new spotlight put on her. She loves fame and now has everything she wants including getting married to Prince Fiyero. She is realizing it comes at a cost given what has happened to her best friend Elphaba and the blatant lies coming out of the Wizard and Madame Morrible. They have rebranded Elphaba as the Wicked Witch of the West and Glinda as Glinda the Good. They are stoking fear amongst Ozians to not just hate Elphaba, but their propaganda reaches to anti-munchkin, anti-animal territory. Elphaba will stop at nothing to expose the Wizard for who he truly is.
