CRIME 101
Director: Bart Layton
Starring: Chris Hemsworth, Halle Berry, Mark Ruffalo, Barry Keoghan, Monica Barbaro, Nick Nolte, Tate Donovan
The LA Crime thriller is a fun subgenre, but the great ones are few and far between. The new movie Crime 101 is a smart entry and should be seen in theaters. Writer, director Bart Layton catapults the audience into this world with a bang. It’s in the early morning as we see Mark Ruffalo’s character Lou, a local LA Detective, getting ready in the bathroom. Halle Berry plays Sharon, an insurance broker awakening to a meditation while Chris Hemsworth’s character, Davis, is a renowned jewel thief who barely survives his latest mission. What they don’t realize is that they’ll all be intertwined playing each other, hoping to survive the crossroads they’ll face. Lou believes he’s narrowing in on the serial jewel thief after tracking him all along the coast of Southern California on the 101. Davis is lonely and tired of living this anonymous and dangerous lifestyle. Sharon’s not getting the promotions she’s begging for despite the high-end insurance clients she deals with. Her latest client (Donovan) is shipping in diamonds for his marriage to a much younger bride. Davis becomes aware of the potential transaction, but he’s not the only jewel thief that has their eyes on the diamonds. Monica Barbaro, Barry Keoghan, and Nick Nolte also factor into this tangled web. In theaters
