Eli Roth is a well-known name in the horror genre but his new film Ice Cream Man may just be a career low for him. Director Eli Roth created this story with writer Noah Belson twenty years ago after the success of Cabin Fever. It’s finally made its way to the big screen, but this should have been kept in the drafts file as the final product is a lackluster but disturbing film. You may have guessed by the title this this is about a sick and twisted ice cream man. You’re partially correct here. Ari Millen plays the title character who displays that creepy grin and look as he drives his truck around the sweet and cozy town of Bayleen Bay. It’s that quintessential summer getaway town as we see kids playing in the park as a whimsical score plays over the opening montage. We’re in the last remaining days of school before summer break. The kids are restless and will gladly enjoy all the sticky treats from the ice cream man. There’s something odd about him despite that catchy TV jingle and strange flavors like The Stinger, Locust Lick, and Froggy’s Swamp Pop. What they don’t know is that the ice cream man has placed this magic spell over the ice cream, so these kids become these little possessed demons who kill their parents and teachers. The family at the heart of this film is young Jared (Zeltzer), his sister Lizzie (Abott) and their parents. Eli Roth plays their dad. While most of the other kids in Jared’s class become little killing monsters, he’s immune as he’s lactose intolerant and doesn’t eat ice cream. In theaters
