If you’ve read Donna Tartt’s Pulitzer Prize winning novel, you are familiar with the sweeping gut punch she lays out in her story about Theo Decker. Too bad the film adaptation is missing all of that. When Theo was a kid, his mother took him to an art museum that forever changed their lives. A terrorist explosion took the lives of Theo’s mother and many others. He survived but has been plagued with guilt since that fateful event. The only thing keeping him connected to his mother is “The Goldfinch” painting he stole from the museum after the bombing. Now as an adult, Theo’s life has taken many twists and turns from living with a wealthy family in New York, moving to Las Vegas to live with his gambling-addicted father, to back to New York working for an antiques dealer. The secretive painting has followed him everyone he’s gone, but now Theo finds himself caught up in a dealer who is willing to blackmail him over it.
