A TALE OF TWO QUEENS
Last June, I was joined by My Talk 1071.1’s Bradley Traynor for an LGBTQ film series at the Trylon Cinema in honor of the 50th anniversary of the Stonewall riots. We showed The Boys in the Band and The Celluloid Closet which concluded with an insightful Q&A with the audience. The Trylon invited us back to continue this series, and this time we are celebrating drag culture with the documentary The Queen from 1968 and 1994’s The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert. Sunday’s movies will be followed by a Q&A as well. We would love to have a sold-out crowd and keep this series going. Tickets are now available on the Trylon’s website.
Here’s the official description from the Trylon
“Forty years before RuPaul’s Drag Race hit the airwaves, drag performers took considerable risks to stage their shows. Separated by 25 years, these two films highlight the courage—and the clothes—it took to be The Queen and to climb King’s Canyon in full drag. Promotional support for these screenings is provided by MyTalk 107.1-F. Sunday screenings are followed by a Q&A with MyTalk radio host Bradley Traynor and film critic Paul McGuire Grimes. “
