One of the most glaring realizations that pops out about this year’s nominees is that we have three of them who have previously won this award. Common won for his song “Glory” in Selma. Pasek and Paul won just last year for “City of Stars” in La La Land. The Lopez’s won a few years back for Frozen’s “Let It Go”. Diane Warren is no stranger at the Oscars as she is a nine-time nominee.  “This is Me” won the Golden Globe and has become a huge hit with audiences. I can see the Academy loving that it’s another movie musical as well as  its themes of self-acceptance. The music in Coco was such a big part of that movie with “Remember Me” being it’s main anthem. It’s a beautiful lullaby that will make anyone sob by the end of the movie. I’d hate to think that “Mystery of Love” doesn’t have a shot, but it’s such an intimate song compared to the other choices. It perfectly aligns with Call Me By Your Name and has stuck with me since I saw it.

Will Win: “This is Me” from The Greatest Showman
Could Win: “Remember Me” from Coco
