A TALENT FOR MURDER
Directors: Anton Corbijn
Starring: Helen Mirren, Alden Ehrenreich, Olivia Cooke, Maddalena Vallecchi Williams, Juliet Stevenson
Patricia Highsmith is the respected author of novels like The Talented Mr. Ripley and Strangers on a Train. She’s the subject of the new film, A Talent for Murder, with Helen Mirren taking on the notorious writer. We pick up with Patricia Highsmith nearing the end of her life. It’s Switzerland 1995, and she’s essentially retired and living a quiet, extremely private life. That takes a sudden turn when she’s visited by Edward Ridgeway (Ehrenreich), an editor who works for a publishing house in New York. He’s tasked with convincing her to write one more Ripley novel. She’s prickly and has zero interest in revisiting her enigmatic character. Something also feels mysterious about Edward as if he’s a real-life Tom Ripley himself. She always wants the upper hand and assesses whether she can trust him or not. In theaters
