FLAMIN’ HOT
Director: Eva Longoria
Starring: Jesse Garcia, Annie Gonzalez, Dennis Haysbert, Matt Walsh, Tony Shalhoub, Emilio Rivera
Flamin’ Hot Cheetos are a tasty snack and all the rage with social media foodies. I would bet that most people don’t know the true story behind the crunchy indulgence. The story belongs to Richard Montañez (Garcia) and dates back to the 1960s with him, a young Mexican boy growing up in a vineyard. His family worked and survived together, and Richard knew he would have to live up to the family name. As an adult, he had a hard time getting work and being taken seriously as the Raegan era wasn’t kind toward minorities. He was never one to quit and always pushed himself forward in life. He takes an application for Frito Lay/Pepsico and gets hired as a janitor cleaning the equipment. He gets a first-hand look at how all the food is made asking questions along the way to any supervisor or manager that will lend an ear to his inquiries. As the snack wars started heating up, he took matters into his own hands and created the flamin’ hot flavor based on the flavors of Mexican cuisine. The rest, as they say, is history, and one that makes for a fascinating movie. Streaming on Hulu
