HUSTLERS

Director: Lorene Scafaria
Starring: Jennifer Lopez, Constance Wu, Julia Stiles, Lili Reinhart, Keke Palmer, Cardi B, Lizzo, Trace Lysette, Mercedes Ruehl

Strippers typically come with a negative stereotype. Hustlers asks us to look beyond that. For Destiny (Wu), it’s a way to make money for being a single mother in New York City. She starts working at a new club, but the money isn’t that great, and she doesn’t feel like she’s as good as the other dancers. Ramona (Lopez) is the queen of the club showcasing what it means to put on a routine for their clients. She takes Destiny under her wings reminding her to always be in control of her life, career, and to not let the degrading nature of the clientele get to her. The Stock Market crash of 2008 kills their business, and their income dries up. The women find it hard to make a living so they reunite and put a twist on what they do best. They call their old clients and lure them in with a drug cocktail only to rack up tens of thousands of dollars on their credit cards by the end of the night. The cash flows in fast giving the women a comfortable quality of life. Their new business venture may be making them rich but it’s dangerous, and as we know, all good things must come crashing down.
