Movie Review: IF

Director: John Krasinski
Starring: Cailey Fleming, Ryan Reynolds, John Krasinski, Steve Carell, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Fiona Shaw, Maya Rudolph, Emily Blunt, George Clooney, Bradley Cooper, Bobby Moynihan, Richard Jenkins, Louis Gossett Jr

John Krasinski is taking a big swing as a director going from the scary A Quiet Place franchise to the family-friendly IF. John Krasinski wrote, directed, and stars in IF that reminds its audience on the importance of imaginary friends at any age. His character, Dad, is trying to give his daughter Bea (Fleming) the best life possible despite the hardships they’ve faced. Bea’s mother died from terminal cancer, and now Dad is facing heart surgery. At 12 years old, she spends time with her grandma (Shaw), but still feels lonely and lost without anyone to talk to. She wakes up one night and sees a big purple furry monster named Blue along with a bug named Blossom talking back to her. Blue is voiced with full-throttle energy by Steve Carell while Phoebe Waller-Bridge voices Blossom. They’re two of many imaginary friends, nicknamed “IFs”, who work for a man named Calvin (Reynolds). Bea may be too old for IFs herself, but she decides to help Calvin match IFs with other kids who are in need of some friends. Now streaming on Paramount+
