Winning the lottery is not the dream you’d expect in the futuristic new film Jackpot! starring Awkwafina and John Cena. Awkwafina stars as Katie, a former child actor who moves back to Los Angeles hoping to jumpstart her career again as an adult. The film is set in the near future in 2030, and California is going through a Depression. The government needs money, as the economy is at an all-time low while the stock market is sky high. The people are worse off and desperate for any attempt to make a large sum of cash, even if it means murder. The lottery system has changed and now the winner has a target on their back. If they can remain alive for 24 hours after winning, they will keep the cash. Everyone else has the chance to take them down and claim their winnings, but there are caveats along the way. Katie finds herself the grand winner and has no clue what’s in store for her until a security guard named Noel (Cena) steps forward and acts as her bodyguard if she’ll split the winnings if he keeps her alive.
