THE ACCOUNTANT 2
Director: Gavin O’Connor
Starring: Ben Affleck, Jon Bernthal, Cynthia Addai-Robinson, J.K. Simmons, Allison Robertson, Robert Morgan
I don’t think anyone thought that Ben Affleck’s film The Accountant would spawn a franchise, but The Accountant 2 is a surprisingly touching action comedy. The first film was a decent hit and featured Ben Affleck’s character, Christian Wolff, as one of the only action heroes out there with autism. The sequel brings back plenty of returning characters including JK Simmons as Ray King. The film’s action filled opening features him being chased and gunned down outside a bingo hall. He claims he was semi-retired and leaves a note on his arm stating to “Find the Accountant” He’s covered his tracks as his emergency point of contact is Marybeth Medina (Addai-Robinson) whose also back for the sequel. She’s a federal agent who knows this means that she must track down Christian Wolff wherever he’s hiding out. Christian’s nickname “The Accountant” comes from his deep knowledge of tax code, exemptions and money laundering. Marybeth finds Ray’s house with pictures, headline clippings, and pieces of a puzzle that don’t add up. That’s where Christian comes into play as he channels what Ray was trying to figure out and it involves a young boy and his mother who seem to be missing and gone off the grid. Christian decides to call in reinforcements in the name of his brother, Braxton (Bernthal). They have a sordid and fractured relationship and haven’t seen each other since the events of the first film. In theaters
