It’s unfortunate when a strong little gem of a movie just can’t get the big studio budget and marketing it deserves. We see this a lot with LGBTQ+ films, and the new film The Mattachine Family is out now in time for Pride month and well deserving of your attention. It comes from director Andy Valletine and his husband, writer Danny Vallentine. It’s a personal story of fatherhood and chosen family. It stars Nico Tortorella as Thomas, a Los Angeles based photographer who fostered a young boy with his husband, Oscar (DiPace). Oscar is a former child star who lost his career after coming out, but has now found success again and is working on a TV series in Michigan. They get the unfortunate news that their son is being re-homed with his birth mom after a year of being fostered. Oscar is busy with work, while Thomas finds himself now alone struggling with what his future holds as a husband and what it means for his family. Then there’s his chosen family with his friend Jamie (Choi) and his friends Leah and Sonia who are a couple also going through the struggles of expanding their family. They’re played by Emily Hampshire and Cloie Wyatt Taylor. Now available to rent or buy OnDemand
