UNSTOPPABLE
Director: William Goldenberg
Starring: Jharrel Jerome, Jennifer Lopez, Bobby Cannavale, Michael Peña, Don Cheadle
There are numerous sports biopics about the underdog persevering to achieve their goals. The new film Unstoppable checks all the boxes. Unstoppable tells the true story of Anthony Robles, who was born without his right leg. He’s played by Emmy-winner Jharrel Jerome. He has always used crutches instead of wearing a prosthetic leg and has never let that get in the way of him being a star wrestler in high school. He’s incredibly talented and gets a full ride to Drexel University while other schools turn their backs on him. On top of the pressures of being a senior, he comes from a low-income family. His mother Judy (Lopez) is always supportive of her son’s dreams, but she can barely scrape by. His stepfather (Cannavale) is abusive, aggressive and refuses to acknowledge Anthony as his son. Anthony feels the pressure to stay close to home and chooses Arizona State University to fulfill his dreams of being a national champion. Streaming on Prime Video
