VERITY

Director: Michael Showalter
Starring: Anne Hathaway, Josh Hartnett, Dakota Johnson, Ismael Cruz Cordova, Brady Wagner

Author Colleen Hoover is a favorite for book clubs and beach reads. She’s already had three books turned into movies, and now Verity is getting the page to screen treatment. If her other books are soapy romances, Verity is a story of villains and unreliable narrators. Hoover sets the stage early on that this will be a game of players you cannot trust. Anne Hathaway plays Verity Crawford, a renowned author who has written an incredible series of page turners and appears on all the podcasts and talk shows. This empire has come from writing books from the vantage point of the villain. Even her husband, Jeremy (Hartnett), won’t read them as they’re too dark. Verity’s personal life is full of tragedy. Their daughter drowned, and Verity gets into a car accident leaving her in a catatonic state. Jeremy and her publisher reach out to aspiring writer Lowen Ashleigh to ghost write the remaining books in her series as Verity is no longer able to finish them. Dakota Johnson plays Lowen who hates the spotlight and writes smaller books no one reads. The offer is too good to pass up. She takes on the job and moves into the Crawford’s beautiful estate hoping to dive into Verity’s research. What she finds is a manuscript that upends everything she thought she knew about this family. In theaters
