“It’s always someone you know.” I am loving the tagline for the fifth entry in the Scream franchise. Fans have eagerly been anticipating the trailer for Scream. I am here to say that it looks like history is repeating itself. I’ve been a massive Scream fan as far back as I can remember, so I’ve been drumming up all sorts of theories based on what little the cast has said so far. Even just naming it “Scream” instead of “Scream 5” seems to be some kind of clue. Then again three different Halloween movies have been named “Halloween”. Scream has long paid tribute to the original Halloween.
What fan theories can be made from this trailer and the direction it will go or is it all a ruse? The shots of Jenna Ortega feel like it would make for a great opening. It was rumored that she and Melissa Barrera’s character are sisters, so is that what prompts Sidney Prescott’s line to her? As they start to piece things together, it’s clear “the attacks were all on people related to the original killers.” Is this what brings them all back to Stu Macher’s house, which served as the climax of the first film? Time will tell on how much this trailer gives away. It could just be deceptively leading us down the wrong path.
“I’m Sidney Prescott. Of course, I have a gun.” What a terrific line delivered by Neve Campbell. It’s pure bliss having Campbell, Courteney Cox, and David Arquette back again.
