VACATION

The last time we checked in with the Griswolds they were in Vegas playing Keno. Vegas Vacation did not live up to expectations and basically killed the franchise. I think enough time has passed and audience members are willing to give them another chance. I wouldn’t call this a reboot or remake as we are picking up with the same characters and actors that have come before. Chevy Chase and Beverly D’Angelo are back as Clark and Ellen. Per tradition, their children Rusty (Helms) and Audrey (Mann) are played by new actors. The film picks up with them as adults this time. Rusty wants to take his sons and wife (Applegate) to Walley World and recreate the vacation he went on as a kid. During their trip, the visit Audrey and her extremely “gifted” boyfriend, played by Chris Hemsworth. It wouldn’t be a family vacation if they didn’t find themselves  in heap of trouble and mayhem along them way.

I’ve watched the NSFW trailer a couple of times now, and it is very funny. The directing team of John Francis Daley and Jonathan M. Goldstein co-wrote the script and there are defining Vacation elements to it. The trailer seems like it plays homage to the original film, so it should fit in well with the franchise without feeling too dated.
