TOMMY BOY

Chris Farley’s classic comedy Tommy Boy is celebrating its 30th anniversary! I don’t know how that could possibly be true, but I definitely remember watching it as a kid when it came out and later on in college when I needed a late night movie to mindlessly laugh the night away after a few drinks. Paramount Home Entertainment is celebrating the 30th anniversary with a brand new 4K, Blu-Ray SteelBook release.
Chris Farley and David Spade were working together on Saturday Night Live when they made Tommy Boy, which was written by Bonnie Turner and Larry Turner. They were writers on Saturday Night Live, so they knew the sensibilities and styles of what made Farley so funny. In the film, Farley plays Tommy Callahan, a recent college graduate who moves back to his hometown and works for his family auto parts factory. His father (Brian Dennehy) suddenly passes away on his wedding day and now the Callahan family business is facing an existential crisis. Tommy and business partner Richard (David Spade) find themselves on a road trip trying to sell brake pads to help keep the company stay afloat. Needless to say, this road trip goes from bad to worse as Richard despises Tommy and the mess they get into. Rob Lowe, Bo Derek, and Dan Aykroyd star in supporting roles.
If you haven’t seen Tommy Boy recently, I highly recommend it if you need an easy laugh. Farley is in pure form with his physical comedy. Tommy is innocent and endearing, and Farley makes the most of it. There are some twists and turns along the way!
