WEAPONS

One of the very best horror movies is now available to own and add to your physical media library. Warner Bros. Home Entertainment is excited to release Weapons just in time for spooky season.
Weapons is the kind of horror movie that stands out in a crowded genre and will be discussed for decades to follow. It’s the new film from writer/director Zach Cregger who has cemented his name in the horror genre with just two films under his belt, Barbarian and Weapons. Weapons starts in the very horrific place of a school tragedy. Emmy winner Julia Garner stars as Justine, a new teacher at her elementary school who comes to school one day and finds only one kid has shown up for class. The seventeen other kids have gone missing, and their home security cameras detail how these kids left their homes in the middle of the night at 2:17 am frolicking to some unknown location. The parents are outraged blaming Justine for what happened, as it was only her class that was targeted. There’s no easy explanation, and the paranoia and hunt for the missing children takes over.
Words can’t accurately describe how blown away I was by this film, and the surprises Zach Cregger has in store. It’s best to go into this with little knowledge of the plot or what unravels. We see this story of a school tragedy through different perspectives: the teacher’s, a police officer, a grieving father, etc… The film is filled with incredible performances from the electric Julia Garner and Josh Brolin to Amy Madigan. Madigan is deserving of an Oscar nomination for her work as Aunt Gladys. It reminded me of Ruth Gordon’s shocking turn in Rosemary’s Baby. Maybe you’ve seen the memes or images of the wig and smeared make-up, but Madigan gives a dynamite performance unlike anything else you’ve seen this year. I saw Weapons in the theater with a packed audience. It was a testament to Cregger’s work, as everyone was glued to the screen transfixed by what was unraveling. No one was on their phone, no one was talking, we were all watching and reacting to this new horror masterpiece.
