SMILE 2
The hit horror sequel Smile 2 will be available on 4K, Blu-Ray, and DVD on Tuesday, January 21 from Paramount Home Entertainment. If you love collecting physical media, I HIGHLY recommend picking up the 4K SteelBook edition which features incredible artwork with Ray Nicholson’s wicked smile. Writer/director Parker Finn had a big hit on his hands with Smile, and it was only a matter of time before he made a sequel. Not only did he deliver, but Smile 2 is better than the first. That is a rarity in the horror genre.
Smile 2 features the return of Kyle Gallner’s character, Joel, plus a slew of memorable new characters. The chaos and madness continues for Joel and pop star Skye Riley (Naomi Scott). Skye hit rock bottom after a tragic car accident with her boyfriend, Paul (Ray Nicholson). Skye attempts to get her life and career back in order, but is plagued an unexplainable force terrorizing her and her friends. There’s chaos and fragility for Skye of what it means to be in the spotlight.
Parker Finn knocks it out of the park with the sequel as he elevates it to new and terrifying heights. The “smiles” are terrifying, and he creates jump scares that truly take you by surprise and pop up without warning in the best kind of way. He stages incredible sequences to hair-pulling madness thanks to a full-throttle approach with the sequel. He uses the camera in a really clever way to put the audience right in the thick of the terror. Naomi Scott gives an incredible performance as Skye as she navigates the character’s erratic descent. Lukas Gage and Ray Nicholson nail the signature “smile” with Nicholson clearly paying homage to his famous dad, Jack Nicholson.
