New on 4K: CATCH ME IF YOU CAN and MINORITY REPORT

CATCH ME IF YOU CAN and MINORITY REPORT

2026 marks the year of NEW SPIELBERG! Yes, the Oscar-winning director’s new movie, Disclosure Day, hits theaters June 12, 2026, and the new trailer looks incredible. It’s Spielberg doing sci-fi/fantasy with Emily Blunt, Josh O’Connor and Colman Domingo. You had me at Spielberg. As I patiently wait for June 12, I will be going back and watching some of Spielberg’s films in anticipation. Paramount Home Entertainment and Alliance Entertainment have recently released two Spielberg gems with Catch Me If You Can and Minority Report getting the 4K treatment. Both films were released in 2002 and show off vastly different sides of Spielberg. The early 2000s were a good time for Spielberg, and those films don’t often get the credit they deserved.

CATCH ME IF YOU CAN

Catch Me If You Can is one of the most underrated Spielberg films, in my opinion. It is based on the “true story” of Frank Abagnale, Jr. (Leonardo DiCaprio) who was committing a series of cons before the age of 21. He posed as a Pan Am pilot, a surgeon, and was cashing fraudulent checks left and right as FBI agent Carl Hanratty (Tom Hanks) was hot on his trail. The story is set in the 1960s, and you realize it could never happen in 2025. This is one of the many collaborations between Hanks and Spielberg, and DiCaprio feels perfectly cast as Abagnale. He was young and charismatic, and you believe he could get away with anything. Christopher Walken gives a terrific performance as Frank’s dad and received an Oscar nomination for it. John Williams’ score should also be noted as its unlike many of the other Spielberg scores he has created. Keep your eyes out for a young Amy Adams!

MINORITY REPORT

Minority Report was the first of two movies for Spielberg and star Tom Cruise. They would later collaborate on the remake of War of the Worlds together in 2005. If Catch Me If You Can was set in the past, Minority Report looks to the future with a company who works in the world of “pre-crime.” Cruise plays Chief John Anderton who works with three beings known as “pre-cogs” who can predict crimes, specifically murders, that happen in the future. Anderton partners with the Washington D.C. police to infiltrate the perpetrators and stop the crime before it happens. It’s based on the 1956 novella by Philip K. Dick. Spielberg enlisted a strong cast next to Cruise with Samantha Morton, Colin Farrell, and Steve Harris in prime roles. The film asks some good questions on the ethics of saving lives and arresting people before they’re able to commit their crimes.
