AMERICAN GRAFFITI

Universal Pictures is proud to announce the release of American Graffiti new on 4K just in time to celebrate its 50th anniversary! Before George Lucas became a household name with Star Wars, he wrote and directed this coming of age film set in 1962. The film’s tagline is “Where were you in ’62?” At the time, Lucas was part of a young group of budding filmmakers, all friends trying to make a name for themselves. One of them happened to be Francis Ford Coppola who is one of the film’s producers. The others? Little names you’ve heard of like Steven Spielberg, Martin Scorsese, and Brian De Palma. They were all best friends helping each other out with projects like this, Carrie, Jaws, and so many other classics. It would go on to receive 5 Oscar nominations including Best Picture, Best Director (George Lucas), and Best Supporting Actress (Candy Clark)

American Graffiti has an all-star cast with Richard Dreyfuss, Ron Howard, Cindy Williams, Candy Clark, Wolfman Jack, Mackenzie Phillips, a memorable Suzanne Somers, and Harrison Ford as a group of friends all hanging out in their hot rods and enjoying late night bites at Mel’s Diner as they lament the last summer night before college.

Mel’s Diner has become synonymous with this film on top of it’s iconic soundtrack featuring: The Beach Boys, Chuck Berry, The Cleftones, The Platters, Buddy Holly, Fats Domino and many more classic sounds from the era.
