FINAL DESTINATION: BLOODLINES

Final Destination: Bloodlines is the sixth entry in the Final Destination franchise that dates back to 2000! Twenty-five years later, and Death continues to curse unsuspecting victims in vicious ways. Warner Bros. Home Entertainment has now released it on physical media and digital to add to your library. I have the first five films in a box set, so I had to add the sixth to my collection.
Final Destination: Bloodlines features the quintessential opening bloodbath that the franchise is known for. This time around its treated as a flashback to the 1960s with the grand opening of the Skyview Tower. It’s essentially a stand in for the Seattle Space Needle. Iris and her fiancé, Paul, are celebrating their new engagement and pregnancy when Iris has a premonition of the Skyview collapsing and killing everyone who is dancing the night away at the top of the tower. It cuts to present day with Iris’ granddaughter, Stefani (Kaitlyn Santa Juana), having nightmares about her grandmother, Iris (now played by Gabrielle Rose), without a clear understanding of what it all means. She heads home to learn more about her family where her aunt and uncle refuse to talk about Iris and their family’s past. Stefani tracks down her grandma who gifts her a notebook full of drawings and newspaper clippings detailing the decades of mysterious deaths and tragic events. Stefani’s premonitions continue, as she tries to save her family from Death’s inevitable fate.
I will admit that I gave the film a negative review upon its theatrical release. It was good to go back and watch it again with a fresh eye and a better understanding of the filmmakers’ vision. The death scenes are ridiculously over the top and gruesome, which have become a staple for the franchise. Fans come to these movies to see how far Death can go with each victim. Fans should not expect this to be a legacy sequel but rather a fresh story with new characters that goes back to where the Death curse began. Don’t anticipate any original cast members to pop up again, expect for the late great Tony Todd as Bludworth. His character has appeared in multiple movies, and this felt like a great send off for him. Final Destination: Bloodlines received strong reviews with a high Rotten Tomatoes score. Fans of the franchise flocked to theaters and were fully aboard with the sixth entry.
