WICKED
One of the biggest movies of 2024 is now available for you to own on 4K, Blu-Ray, and DVD. Universal Home Entertainment has now released Wicked for you to add to your physical media library. The smash hit musical Wicked has been dazzling audiences all over the world for the last twenty-one years. The long-awaited movie musical adaptation did not disappoint. Not only did it exceeded my incredibly high expectations, but it made my list of the Top 10 Movies of 2024.
Wicked is the origin story of Elphaba, the Wicked Witch of the West from The Wizard of Oz and how she became wicked. The musical has been adapted from the Gregory Maguire novel of the same name. It opens with Ariana Grande’s Glinda the Good Witch addressing the people of Munchkinland with the announcement that the Wicked Witch is dead. The story then flashes back to their younger days when they were friends at Shiz University. Glinda was a popular, perky, blonde student, and Elphaba (Erivo) was her studious and magical roommate. Elphaba’s green skin and effortless approach to magic is spotted from the moment she arrives at Shiz. Her abilities are unlike any other student, and head mistress Madame Morrible (Yeoh) knows how to secretly take advantage of her with the help of the Wonderful Wizard of Oz (Goldblum).
Wicked has now received 10 Academy Award nominations, including nominations for both Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande. Here’s hoping it takes home a few Oscars. The new release is packed with over an hour of special features that gives audiences a deep dive into every inch of the production from Christopher Scott’s stunning choreography, Paul Tazewell’s lush costumes, to Erivo and Grande receiving their calls hearing they got the part. If you love the music as much as I do, this new release also features a Sing-Along version for the whole family to sing along to their favorite numbers.
