It’s Spooky Season! Time to add some more horror movies to your collection. Warner Bros Home Entertainment has two movies now out on 4K for the first time.
INTERVIEW WITH THE VAMPIRE (1994)

Vampire culture never seems to go away, but author Anne Rice was certainly ahead of the times when she started her Vampire Chronicles series. The first book was Interview with the Vampire, and she then went on to write the screenplay. It features Brad Pitt who was still making a name for himself in Hollywood. He plays the vampire Louis who is telling his life story to the Interviewer (Christian Slater) and recounting his days with the seductive and forceful Lestat (Tom Cruise).
It’s wild to watch this film noting the massive movie careers that Brad Pitt and Tom Cruise have had since this film. It’s so early on in their careers that it probably didn’t feel risky to take on characters like these. Despite their star power, I do think that the supporting cast is stronger. Kirsten Dunst makes an incredible screen debut as young Claudia. She owns every scene ripping through anyone who gets in her way. Stephen Rhea and Antonio Banderas are also noteworthy. Director Neil Jordan made a gorgeous film with Sandy Powell’s lush costumes and a production design that vividly brings Rice’s world to life.

EVIL DEAD BURN (2026)

Sam Raimi wrote and directed The Evil Dead in 1981, and since then, it has spawned the original trilogy, a remake, a television series, and now additional films. Evil Dead Burn is the sixth film in the franchise that continues the effects of the Necronomicon, the Book of the Dead. Those evil zombies known as the Deadites are back for more.
Wednesday star Hunter Doohan leads the film as Joe Price who has been digging into his grandfather’s research about the Necronomicon. That can only mean one thing. The Deadites return with a vengeance. Joe’s brother is killed in a fiery car crash. Now the Price family and Joe’s wife, Alice (Souheila Yacoub), come together at their old rickety family home where family dynamics and Deadites have deadly consequences.
Evil Dead Burn was written and directed by Sébastien Vaniček who brings a sharp eye to the film. He turns to French horror styles for inspiration and makes this a visually appealing Evil Dead film. I was quite impressed by the meticulous nature of his action scenes in how they were choreographed and shot, how he uses the camera, and the overall use of practical effects and blood prosthetics. Far too many horror movies these days rely on CGI blood and carnage. Vaniček keeps this grounded in character while also crafting disturbing jump scares.
