THE DEPARTED

Warner Bros. Home Entertainment is excited to announce the release of Martin Scorsese’s Oscar-winning 2006 film The Departed on a new 4K/Digital in the collective Steelbook packaging. The Steelbook has a real cool matte finish with two rats on the back. Martin Scorsese made The Departed as an English-language remake of Infernal Affairs, a 2002 Hong Kong film by Andrew Lau and Alan Mak. The film is one of Scorsese’s many collaborations with Leonardo DiCaprio who leads an all-star cast with Jack Nicholson, Matt Damon, Alec Baldwin, Martin Sheen, Vera Farmiga, and Mark Wahlberg. Wahlberg received an Oscar nomination for Best Support Actor for his performance. The film won four of its five nominations including Best Picture, Director, Film Editing, and Best Adapted Screenplay. It’s one of my favorites from Scorsese, and I’ll never forget seeing it for the first time at the Mann Cinema in St. Louis Park, MN. Another theater that has since bit the dust. It’s a potboiler of a story with twists, turns, and an explosive ending. Jack Nicholson is downright perfect as Costello, the leader of the local Irish American gang. DiCaprio teeters on the edge as he never knows who he can trust, while Damon gives another stand out performance.

Here’s the official synopsis:

“Martin Scorsese directs an all-star cast in this action-packed thriller set in Boston, where a long-simmering hostility between the police department and an Irish American gang led by Frank Costello is primed to explode.  The fuse is lit when a gangster is chosen to infiltrate the police force – a young cop goes undercover within the gang.  Now, when the two moles uncover each other’s identity, the battle begins.”

The new 4K remaster was completed at Warner Bros. Discovery’s Motion Picture Imaging department with Oscar-winning editor, Thelma Schoonmaker, who has collaborated with Martin Scorsese for decades on some of his greatest films.

The new release contains the following special features:

  1. Guilt and Betrayal: Looking into The Departed NEW!!
  2. Stranger Than Fiction: The True Story of Whitey Bulger, Southie, and The Departed
  3. Crossing Criminal Cultures
  4. 9 Deleted Scenes with introductions by Martin Scorsese

Any Scorsese collector will want to have this in their collection!
