PAUL’S TOP 10 OF THE DECADE – THE 2010s

PAUL’S TOP 10 OF THE DECADE – THE 2010s It was a fun treat to look back at the best films of the last decade. There were so many movies that resonated with themes of self-acceptance, finding your place in this world, sexuality, topical issues, family and more. PAUL PREDICTS (SOME OF) THE OSCARS WINNERS

PAUL PREDICTS (SOME OF) THE OSCARS WINNERS This year’s Oscar race will no doubt come with some surprises. The acting categories seem pretty locked in place given that the four frontrunners (Oldman, McDormand, Janney, and Rockwell) have won every other major award so far. It’s the Best Picture and Best Director races that seem a bit more ambiguous as you can make cases for a variety of the nominees. Here are my thoughts on the top six categories And the nominees are… BEST ACTOR 1. Timothee Chalamet, Call Me By Your Name 2. Daniel Day-Lewis, Phantom Thread 3. Daniel Kaluuya, Get Out 4. Gary Oldman, Darkest Hour 5. DenzelRead More →

PAUL PREDICTS THE 2018 OSCAR NOMINEES

PAUL PREDICTS THE 2018 OSCAR NOMINEES It’s that time of the year again where I predict the Oscar nominations for Shane Slater and his website Film Actually. It’s been such a great year for film and a variety of performances that are all worthy of nominations. Frankly, it’s became one of the hardest years to predict. Tune in Tuesday morning, January 23rd to hear the nominations announced. Until then, here are my predictions. BEST PICTURE 1. The Big Sick 2. Call Me By Your Name 3. Dunkirk 4. The Florida Project 5. Get Out 6. Lady Bird 7. The Post 8. The Shape of WaterRead More →

2017: A YEAR IN REVIEW

2017: A YEAR IN REVIEW It has certainly been an interesting year at the movies with many unpredictable turns at the box office. Studios may finally be getting the hint that audiences want diverse movies with women and minorities in lead roles. WE WANT THESE STORIES! Two of the biggest box offfice hits of the year had female leads with Beauty and the Beast ($504 million) and Wonder Woman ($412 million). Horror hits like Stephen King’s IT and Jordan Peele’s directorial debut Get Out saw audiences flocking to these for a good fright. Studios should hopefully be getting the hint that we are tired ofRead More →

Movie Review: DUNKIRK

DUNKIRK Writer/Director: Christopher Nolan Starring: Fionn Whitehead, Mark Rylance, Tom Hardy, Cillian Murphy, Kenneth Branagh, Harry Styles, Jack Lowden Dunkirk is yet another example of how Christopher Nolan can masterfully tackle any genre. Over the past decade, we’ve seen him go through space and time continuums with Interstellar, a superhero saga with The Dark Knight Trilogy, and dive deep into our dreams and subconscious with Inception. All of his films tell vastly different stories, yet are unmistakably his movies. With Dunkirk, he turns to the harrowing World War II battle in France between the Allies and the Germans. The British and French armies have beenRead More →
