The SAG Awards started out fairly predictable with Downey and Randolph continuing their season long sweeps. It’s been such a stellar year at the movies that it’s hard not to root for them, but also hope that someone else like Danielle Brooks or Ryan Gosling could have snagged an award along the way just to spread out the acknowledgments. All eyes went to the leading actor/actress race where Cillian Murphy won over Paul Giamatti and Lily Gladstone won over Emma Stone. All four actors have been going head to head making those races really interesting this season. What does that mean for the Oscar? In my opinion, it’s too close to call and I love a good race to the finish line. SAG members vote for the SAG Awards, so actors vote for actors. The same process is who determines the Oscar as the acting categories are voted on by the actors. There are many crossover voters that are SAG and Academy members. It is certainly safe to think Cillian Murphy and Lily Gladstone are that much closer to their Oscar wins, but don’t count out the beloved Paul Giamatti or Emma Stone who have picked up many accolades so far this award season. In previous seasons, Chadwick Boseman, Viola Davis, Glenn Close, Emily Blunt, and Denzel Washington all won the SAG Award in recent years but failed to go on to win the Oscar. We shall see who takes home the Oscar!
