Nicole Kidman and Jamie Lee Curtis are a dream team in their new series Scarpetta. They’re are teaming up not only on screen but off screen to tell complex women’s stories with female creators. They’ve hit a strong spot with Scarpetta which is based on the wildly popular book series by Patricia Cornwell. Kidman stars as Kay Scarpetta, a renowned medical examiner being sworn back into that position in her hometown. She previously held that title decades ago. The body of a young woman is found near the local train tracks. It was a gruesome killing, and the evidence feels eerily familiar to a case Kay worked when she was just starting in the field. That case would go on to define her career. The series is split into two narratives with Kidman playing Kay in present day, and Rosy McEwen playing the character in the late 1990s. This becomes a complicated family affair for her. She and her husband (Simon Baker) live with her sister, Dorothy (Jamie Lee Curtis), Dorothy’s husband Pete (Bobby Cannavale), and their daughter, Lucy (Ariana DeBose). Pete’s a retired detective who Kay unofficially hires to help work this case. The flashback narrative sees the younger versions of all of these characters and the intricate family dynamics that define them. Streaming on Prime Video
