Twin Cities Film Fest 2024
It’s that time of year again, and the Twin Cities Film Fest is back for another exciting lineup, as they celebrate their fifteenth anniversary. I’ve been going to the fest for over ten years now, and it’s been remarkable to watch them grow and leave their imprint on the Twin Cities under executive director, Jatin Setia. This year’s fest offers up exciting new studio films that are always noteworthy in the film festival circuit as studios hope to earn award season recognition. The opening night feature film is Conclave, starring Ralph Fiennes, Stanley Tucci, and John Lithgow. It’s a fascinating thriller that looks into the confirmation process of a new Pope after the previous Pope’s sudden death. Other buzzed about studio films include Jesse Eisenberg’s A Real Pain, Nickel Boys from writer Colson Whitehead, and Saoirse Ronan’s Blitz.
On top of showing remarkable films, Twin Cities Film Fest boasts different film series based on different topics of interest including their Changemaker series, Code Red, Her, Empower, Out, Black on Screen, and MN-Connected. The fest goes beyond showing films to showcasing why they matter with topics on climate change, LGBTQ cinema, BIPOC films and more.
This year’s Twin Cities Film Fest will feature appearances from Daisy Ridley, Tom Bateman, Beau Bridges, Josh Duhamel, and Joel Hodgson. Hodgson is best known for “Mystery Science Theater 3000” and will present one of his favorite films, A Thousand Clowns (1965) and will do a 15-20 minute Q&A following the screening on Saturday, October 19th at 6:45. Tickets are $13 for the full experience. Daisy Ridley catapulted to fame as Rey in the new Star Wars trilogy. She, along with her husband, Tom Bateman, will present their film Magpie on Monday, October 21 at 6:30. There will be a 15-20 minute Q&A to follow their screening. Tickets are $25 for the full experience.
Every year, TCFF creates a full experience for moviegoers depending on what they are looking for at a film festival. There are photo ops, the official festival lounge, education panels, unique films, and endless conversation to be had. Some of my favorite films in any given year were films that I experienced at the Twin Cities Film Fest. Many films like Moonlight, Nomadland, and Green Book went on to win the Oscar for Best Picture.
