FERRARI

Director: Michael Mann
Starring: Adam Driver, Penelope Cruz, Shailene Woodley, Patrick Dempsey, Jack O’Connell

The name Ferrari is synonymous with luxury cars and the racing industry. It shouldn’t come as a surprise that the background of the company and its founder Enzo Ferrari is far more complicated than meets the surface. Part of that history is explored in the new film Ferrari. Director Michael Mann has made many films based on high profile true stories from The Insider to Ali to Public Enemies. He now turns to a passion project for him that has been years in the making with Adam Driver starring as Enzo Ferrari. He was a former racecar driver who founded the car company with his wife, Laura (Cruz), in 1947 after World War II ended. The film is primarily set in 1957 with Enzo at a crossroads in his personal and professional life. His marriage to Laura is imploding as she discovers he has had a long-standing affair with his mistress Lina (Woodley) who he secretly has a son with. Enzo and Laura’s son, Dino, died a year prior from muscular dystrophy. Laura has never recovered from their tragedy. As a company, Ferrari is going bankrupt and needs drastic changes. This is further challenged with the arrival of Maserati leading Enzo to enter a team in the 1957 Mille Miglia. He’s hoping this dangerous race around the Italian countryside can solidify and maintain the Ferrari name and legacy.
