MAN ON THE RUN

Director: Morgan Neville
Starring: Paul McCartney

Every year we seem to get a new documentary about The Beatles. Director Morgan Neville is now taking a look at the life of Paul McCartney in the years after The Beatles broke up. It’s easy to want to find blame in who broke the Beatles up. They were the greatest band of all time and called it quits. Rumors traveled fast, and Paul started to buy into the notion that he broke up the Beatles even though it wasn’t true. He felt in no man’s land with this transition but knew deep down that this claim was simply not true as John was the first to approach the band about stepping down. Morgan Neville uses old audio of Paul describing how he, his wife Linda, and their kids went and spent time in an old farmhouse to escape and recharge. Linda describes it as, “way out in the end of nowhere.” Morgan Neville presents the vulnerable side of Paul McCartney who details how songwriting is the ultimate therapy as he works things out in the lyrics, seeing where the breadcrumbs in the lyrics and music lead him. For someone so identified by The Beatles he wondered if he could be accepted on his own. This era of new music was a rollercoaster ride of celebrating ordinary life, finding the right members for his new band Wings and the shaky relationships in closing out the business dealings of The Beatles.
