YOU CAN SEE EVERYTHING

Directors: Nathan Fielder, Lance Oppenheim
Starring: Elizabeth Holmes, Billy Evans, Nathan Fielder

You Can See Everything is the perfect title for the new documentary about Elizabeth Holmes. You get the sense that she and her husband want nothing more than truth and transparency, and yet, that will never happen. Directors Nathan Fielder and Lance Oppenheim have crafted one of the most unique and fascinating documentaries that I’ve ever seen. Elizabeth Holmes was convicted on multiple charges of fraud and conspiracy stemming from the work she did with her company Theranos. Thirty-four days before she’s set to be incarcerated, she invites a small film crew to show the real her. Her husband, Billy Evans, laments that nobody knows who she is. Everyone has built up this myth about her and they want radical transparency. The filmmakers show media footage of her career and the fraud charges that followed to set the scene. She firmly believes she didn’t commit any crimes and questions how she got here. All she knows is her truth, and we see her fighting back tears. Are those tears real or manufactured? That’s one of many questions Nathan Fielder is trying to understand. It becomes quite evident that Liz and Billy are master manipulators who believe they can outsmart and use their own brand of strategy and power to remain in control of every situation. Whether or not Liz and Billy are on the same page is another question to ponder. Now in theaters
