Now I know what book I’ll be picking up the next time I swing through Barnes & Noble. Maybe that will be tomorrow. Readers that were obsessed with Gillian Flynn’s Gone Girl were looking for their next female-driven page turner and found it with Paula Hawkins book The Girl on the Train. It was only a matter of time before we saw it adapted for the big screen. The “teaser trailer” has now been released, and the beginning of it looks very reminiscent of Gone Girl. Director Tate Taylor is no stranger to adapting bestselling books after his work on The Help. He has now taken a page out of the David Fincher handbook in order to craft a good psychological thriller. Emily Blunt is no stranger with high intensity roles, and this could be another good vehicle for her. I can’t help but think the trailer was purposely released in the same week her film The Huntsman: Winter’s War is opening. I would bet that this trailer will play before that film. She’s joined by a dynamic cast with Luke Evans (The Hobbit), Rebecca Ferguson (Mission: Impossible-Rogue Nation), Allison Janney (The West Wing), and Justin Theroux (The Leftovers). Here is the official plot synopsis:

“In the thriller, Rachel (Blunt), who is devastated by her recent divorce, spends her daily commute fantasizing about the seemingly perfect couple who live in a house that her train passes every day, until one morning she sees something shocking happen there and becomes entangled in the mystery that unfolds.”

After watching the trailer a few times, it does seem like it gives quite a bit away leading me to figure out what twists lay ahead. Maybe it’s just crafty editing on their part to lead moviegoers in a certain direction. Regardless, The Girl on the Train will surely be a big hit this fall.
