GOOD LUCK, HAVE FUN, DON’T DIE

Director: Gore Verbinski
Starring: Sam Rockwell, Michael Peña, Zazie Beetz, Haley Lu Richardson, Juno Temple

If a movie is called Good Luck, Have Fun, Don’t Die, there’s already a playful tone set in place. It’s a truly original story dealing with AI. Good Luck, Have Fun, Don’t Die is part comedy, part horror, part futuristic fantasy all twisted and rolled up into one movie. Gore Verbinski directed this wacky film from a script by Matthew Robinson. Imagine being in a diner late at night when a man comes in claiming to be from the future. That’s the set up with Sam Rockwell storming into a diner disheveled claiming he has multiple bombs on him asking “Who’s ready to save the future?” It’s a wild opening sequence that then cuts to Michael Peña and Zazie Beetz as, Mark and Janet, two high school teachers on the verge of their own paranoia. Mark thinks the student’s phones have special powers. They’re all glued to their phones but something strange is happening. Gore Verbinski cuts to the present, and Mark and Janet are willing participants for the Man from the Future to save the planet. There’s also Juno Temple as Susan whose child was a victim in a high school shooting. Before the diner incident, she’s given the opportunity to have her child cloned. One of the other participants in the fight to save the future is Ingrid (Haley Lu Richardson) She’s recently broken up with her boyfriend and happens to be allergic to cellphones and wi-fi.
