As a director, George Clooney has made movies about perseverance and overcoming life’s obstacles. Those challenges are at the heart of the true story The Boys in the Boat. It’s 1936 in Seattle and Callum Turner plays Joe Rantz who is behind in his payments for school and is homeless living out of his truck. He continues having a hard time finding work and will be dropped from school if he can’t make his payments. He learns about a job opportunity that might be available if he makes a new rowing team at the university. Only eight players can make the team, which is head up by Coach Al Ulbrickson (Edgerton). It was stiff competition, but Joe Rantz pulls ahead making the final cut for the junior varsity team for University of Washington. It’s a rough start for Coach, Joe, and the team but their win at Poughkeepsie gives them the edge and real chance to play at the Berlin Olympic games. In theaters
