THE FABULOUS FOUR

Director: Jocelyn Moorhouse
Starring: Bette Midler, Sheryl Lee Ralph, Susan Sarandon, Megan Mullally, Bruce Greenwood

The movie Book Club has spawned a new generation of films about lifelong female friendships and the adventures they get into in retirement. The new film The Fabulous Four has a terrific cast but its missing a key ingredient. Bette Midler’s character Marilyn could be considered the ringleader of The Fabulous Four. The film opens with her as a recent widow saying goodbye to life she had with her late husband. It’s only a few months later when she announces she’s now engaged to her new boyfriend. Her lifelong best friends, Alice (Mullally) and Kitty (Ralph), decide to throw her a bachelorette weekend in Key West. Alice and Kitty trick their other friend, Louise (Sarandon), into joining them for the getaway weekend despite some decades old beef between Marilyn and Louise. It’s a weekend full of sex toys, pot gummies, TikTok, and some deep-seeded tension that comes to head.
