THE MOTHER

Director: Niki Caro
Starring: Jennifer Lopez, Lucy Paez, Omari Hardwick, Gael Garcia Bernal, Joseph Fiennes

Jennifer Lopez may best be known for her rom-coms, but she’s done a fair number of action film, including the new Netflix film The Mother. Lopez’s character is never given a name. She’s someone that’s always been elusive, hidden in the shadows. The movie’s introduction finds her as a pregnant deadly assassin on a mission gone wrong. The aftermath leaves her forced to deliver the baby and place her in secret protective custody in order to stay safe. She flees to Alaska saying goodbye to her new baby daughter. 12 years later, she receives word from her former partner Officer William Cruise (Hardwick) that her daughter (Paez) is in danger from the arms dealer she dealt with years ago. He’s played by Joseph Fiennes. She’ll stop at nothing to find and protect her daughter at any costs. Gael Garcia Bernal also stars as a former officer at Guantanamo Bay who is secretly trading and supplying weapons with Fiennes’ character. Streaming on Netflix
