Fans have been eagerly anticipating any sort of footage from Scream VI. Paramount Pictures has unveiled a new official teaser trailer that is just that – a damn tease! We find Sam, Mindy, Chad, and Tara on a New York City subway. It appears to be Halloween season as a few riders are dressed in costumes. The four appear on edge after spotting a Ghostface costume, which escalates the fear and tension of what happens next.

The film’s taglines include “In a city of millions, no one hears you scream” and “New city, new rules” as this is the first time we’ve seen the Scream franchise set in New York City. I think there’s a lot of potential to be had here as long as we don’t end up with Friday the 13th Part VIII: Jason Takes Manhattan situation. Scream VI boasts the return of Courteney Cox as Gale Weathers and Hayden Panettiere returns as Kirby Reed who we last saw in Scream 4 . This film also marks a franchise first without having final girl Sidney Prescott involved. Neve Campbell has been on record multiple times stating she will not return as Sidney due to pay inequities in Hollywood and the low salary she was given during her contract negotiations. I wholly applaud Campbell’s decision as it sets a good reminder for the industry of not undervaluing top talent. With that said, I do secretly think she’ll pop up in the last reel to surprise the audience and possibly set up a Scream 7 to conclude this new trilogy. That is just a fan theory of mine, as nothing official as come out about a Scream 7.

Following the latest Ghostface killings, the four survivors leave Woodsboro behind and start a fresh chapter. In Scream VI, Melissa Barrera (“Sam Carpenter”), Jasmin Savoy Brown (“Mindy Meeks-Martin”), Mason Gooding (“Chad Meeks-Martin”), Jenna Ortega (“Tara Carpenter”), Hayden Panettiere (“Kirby Reed”) and Courteney Cox (“Gale Weathers”) return to their roles in the franchise alongside Jack Champion, Henry Czerny, Liana Liberato, Dermot Mulroney, Devyn Nekoda, Tony Revolori, Josh Segarra, and Samara Weaving.
