SOLO: A STAR WARS STORY
Director: Ron Howard
Starring: Alden Ehrenreich, Emilia Clarke, Donald Glover, Woody Harrelson, Thandie Newton
The road to Solo has been plagued with enough behind the scenes drama to fill the galaxy. Solo: A Star Wars Story is the next “stand alone” Star Wars film, much like 2016’s Rogue One. We see the return of some familiar faces like Han Solo, this time played by Hail Caesar’s Alden Ehrenreich, Lando Calrissian (Glover), and Chewbecca as this film goes back to the early days of our favorite rascally pilot.
The film was originally set to be directed by Christopher Miller and Phil Lord, the duo behind The LEGO Movie and the 21 Jump Street movies. They have a comedic background with their filmography, so it was assumed Solo would be a lighter adventure than the others in the canon. Apparently the film got to be too tonally different derailing from Lawrence Kasdan’s (Empire Strikes Back) script to the point of powerhouse producer Kathleen Kennedy firing them weeks before principal photography was set to be FINISHED. Ron Howard was then brought on to finish the film and do any reshoots that were needed.
We now have a first glimpses of Solo thanks to it’s new Super Bowl teaser and full-length trailer.
