SUPERMAN

One of the biggest movies of the summer was the highly anticipated Superman from writer/director James Gunn. There was a lot riding on Gunn’s take on the Man of Steel given he recently took over as the head of DC and was relaunching the DC Universe. Warner Bros. Home Entertainment is excited to release the film on 4K, Blu-Ray, DVD and Digital for all you collectors out there.
James Gunn has proven himself at adapting comic book stories for the screen with the Guardians of the Galaxy trilogy, Peacemaker, and The Suicide Squad. He isn’t doing another Superman origin story, as he knows we’ve already seen that on screen many times before. Instead, he opens the film mid-battle for Superman. He’s already a hero trying to save Metropolis. David Corenswet is the latest actor in the coveted role of Clark Kent and Superman, and he’s now left for dead in the frozen tundra. The man behind this battle is Lex Luthor, played terrifically by Nicholas Hoult. He’s a tech billionaire who has created an army of ultrahumans that he’s named “Planet Watch”. He’s desperate and hoping to use the government for his own financial gain. He’s also spreading rumors in the media by using altered footage claiming Superman was sent to destroy Earth and the human population. Rachel Brosnahan plays Lois Lane who knows the truth around the identity of Superman and Clark Kent. She will stop at nothing to help and protect Superman every step of the way. The film also stars Wendell Pierce as Daily Planet boss Perry White and Skyler Gisondo as reporter Jimmy Olsen.
Superman was a massive achievement for Gunn. It was a thrilling start for his new DC vision. He’s known for his knack for casting, and David Corenswet made for the PERFECT Superman/Clark Kent. He has the vulnerability, charm, and dashing good looks for the duality within the character. He paired well next to Rachel Brosnahan’s Lois Lane, as their chemistry was off the charts. The third person in this triangle was Nicholas Hoult’s Lex Luthor. Hoult brought new shades to Luthor and gave him a strong arc that we don’t often see with the iconic villain. Gunn has already announced that Corenswet and Hoult will be back in the sequel, Man of Tomorrow, which is set for release July 9, 2027.
