ANCHORMAN: THE LEGEND OF RON BURGUNDY
“Hey, everyone! Come see how good I look!” – Ron Burgundy
Your favorite 1970s news anchor is back and looking better than ever in 4K. He would love that! Paramount Home Entertainment is releasing the hit comedy, Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy, in a new 3-Disc 4K edition to celebrate the film’s 20th anniversary. Before Adam McKay directed political satires like Don’t Look Up and The Big Short, he collaborated with Will Ferrell on a few projects including Anchorman which tells the legendary tale of a well-respected San Diego news team in the 1970s. Ron Burgundy always took his job seriously as he informed his audience of the major headlines and ended his broadcast with the catchphrase, “You stay classy, San Diego.” The station gets a bit of a makeover with the arrival of Christina Applegate’s Veronica Corningstone. Veronica is sexy, sophisticated, and ready to be taken seriously in the male-dominated world of news. Ron not only falls madly in love with her, but then feels threatened if she takes over the anchor desk.
Adam McKay and Will Ferrell wrote the screenplay, and it remains one of the greatest comedies in the last twenty-five years. The humor works so well given its a true ensemble comedy, and everyone has such a distinct character to lean into from Paul Rudd’s sexy Brian Fantana to Steve Carell’s dim-witted Brick Tamland, and David Koechner’s goofy Champ Kind. Who didn’t want a bottle of Sex Panther cologne to smell like Paul Rudd? The movie is endlessly quotable for anyone in this generation who played this on repeat in college and in the years since then. I remember seeing it the summer it opened in 2004 and have laughed out loud since then. The antics between Veronica and Ron are genius from the teleprompter bits to the prank phone calls. Christina Applegate never gets the credit she deserves as a comedic actress. Ferrell has since donned the classic Burgundy suit and mustache for the bloated and unfunny sequel and a podcast, but I still firmly believe the original film is the best use of the character.
Pick up Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy today, and I know you’ll laugh all over again.
