PAUL’S TOP 10 MOVIES OF 2025

It’s that time of the year again when I look back at the best movies of the year. I found myself drawn to movies that spoke of the now, movies that felt topical to what is happening in today’s world. What’s always interesting is that when you start to peel back the layers, you learn that a movie like One Battle After Another has been in the works for fifteen years. Writer/director Paul Thomas Anderson has been working on this screenplay for years, and yet, it feels made for today’s political environment. There are movies that speak to the healing power of art, the human connection, and filmmakers who challenged themselves and their creative teams to work at the top of their game. Paul Thomas Anderson and Ryan Coogler embraced high premium formats like IMAX and VistaVision to push their movies further. Many of the directors I’ve chosen like Anderson, Coogler, Chloé Zhao, Josh Safdie, Mike Flanagan, Zach Cregger, Clint Bentley, Bradley Cooper, and Noah Baumbach all wrote or co-wrote their films.
