Movie Review: BATTLE OF THE SEXES

BATTLE OF THE SEXES Directors: Jonathan Dayton, Valerie Faris Starring: Emma Stone, Steve Carell, Sarah Silverman, Andrea Riseborough, Austin Stowell, Bill Pullman, Elisabeth Shue, Eric Christian Olsen, Alan Cumming Emma Stone and Steve Carell are a winning pair in their second outing together after starring in 2011’s Crazy, Stupid, Love. Both happen to be Oscar nominees with Stone winning last year for La La Land. Battle of the Sexes is set in 1972 and 1973 at the height of Billie Jean King’s career. Movie Review: INDEPENDENCE DAY: RESURGENCE

INDEPENDENCE DAY RESURGENCE Director: Roland Emmerich Starring: Liam Hemsworth, Jeff Goldblum, Bill Pullman, Jessie T. Usher, Vivica A. Fox, Maika Monroe, Judd Hirsch, Joey King, Brent Spiner, William Fichtner, Sela Ward In the age of reboots, sequels, re-imaginings, and everything in between, does it really come as a surprise that there is a sequel to the mega blockbuster smash hit from 1996, Independence Day? The new sequel picks up twenty years after the aliens invaded the planet, and they’ve stayed dormant ever since then. The United States’ space technology has improved, and they have a command base stationed on the moon to keep a never-endingRead More →

Movie Review: AMERICAN ULTRA

AMERICAN ULTRA Director: Nima Nourizadeh Starring: Jesse Eisenberg, Kristen Stewart, Topher Grace, Connie Britton, Bill Pullman, John Leguizamo, Walter Goggins, Tony Hale “Well…that was something.” Those were the precise words I said to another critic as the lights came up on American Ultra. I only watched the trailer once so I knew very little going in as to what to expect. I knew the actors and the idea of it being this stoner comedy/action type of movie. There’s potential there, as we’ve seen movies of this genre smash before. Pineapple Express and Edgar Wright’s Cornetto Trilogy are good example to show that you can doRead More →

Movie Review: THE EQUALIZER

THE EQUALIZER Director: Antoine Fuqua Starring: Denzel Washington, Marton Csokas, Chloë Grace Moretz, David Harbour, Bill Pullman, Melissa Leo Denzel Washington is back in another high-intensity action flick. How many of these has he done lately? This time he reteams with his Training Day director Antoine Fuqua. Robert McCall (Washington) spends most of his day stocking shelves or cutting wood at Home Mart (similar to Home Depot) and is a mentor toward another worker trying to get in shape for the security position. His nightly routine involves a stop at a local diner for a cup of tea and some reading time. He’s got aRead More →
