Movie Review: NOBODY

NOBODY Director: Ilya NaishullerStarring: Bob Odenkirk, Christopher Lloyd, Aleksey Serebryakov, Connie Nielsen, RZA, Gage Munroe, Paisley Cadorath When you think about the great character actors working today, Bob Odenkirk should come to mind. He stars as Hutch Mansell. We see him going about a very repetitive day to day routine with exercise, taking the Metro to work, and being with his family. You get the impression he’s a nobody in other people’s minds. His home is broken into in the middle of the night sending Hutch down a rabbit hole of revenge. This escalates into a fantastic fight scene on a bus and a RussianRead More →

LITTLE WOMEN Writer/Director: Greta GerwigStarring: Saoirse Ronan, Emma Watson, Florence Pugh, Eliza Scanlen, Laura Dern, Meryl Streep, Timothée Chalamet, Bob Odenkirk, Chris Cooper There have been many page to screen adaptations of Louisa May Alcott’s Little Women. In the new adaptation by Greta Gerwig (Lady Bird), Saoirse Ronan tackles Jo with Laura Dern as her loving mother, Marmee. Florence Pugh (Amy), Emma Watson (Meg), and Eliza Scanlen (Beth) join her as her fellow March sisters. We cannot forget about Meryl Streep playing their stern aunt. And just whenRead More →

Movie Review: INCREDIBLES 2

INCREDIBLES 2 Writer/Director: Brad Bird Starring: Craig T. Nelson, Holly Hunter, Samuel L. Jackson, Sarah Vowell, Bob Odenkirk, Catherine Keener, Huck Milner, Eli Fucile, Isabella Rossellini Pixar has had varying success with their sequels ranging from unnecessary (Cars 2) to innocent fun (Monsters University, Finding Dory), to making you downright cry uncontrollably (Toy Story 3). Incredibles 2 has that quintessential Pixar touch where they ease you for a fun adventure and then packs a punch by its end, but this time without the tears. The Incredibles have to be careful, as being super heroes is considered unlawful in the city. When the Underminer wreaks havocRead More →

Movie Review: THE POST

THE POST Director: Steven Spielberg Starring: Meryl Streep, Tom Hanks, Bob Odenkirk, Carrie Coon, Sarah Paulson, Tracy Letts, Bradley Whitford, Bruce Greenwood, Matthew Rhys, Jesse Plemons, David Cross, Zach Woods Director Steven Spielberg has spent the recent part of his career making historical dramas with Munich, Lincoln, and Bridge of Spies, not to mention all of his war-based films. He wants to hold a mirror to our past so we can learn from history and apply it to our present day political environment. The Post uses the Vietnam War as it’s starting point with Matthew Rhys as Daniel, a vet who witnesses government officials lyingRead More →

Movie Review: THE DISASTER ARTIST

THE DISASTER ARTIST Director: James Franco Starring: James Franco, Dave Franco, Seth Rogen, Jacki Weaver, Alison Brie, Ari Graynor, Josh Hutcherson, Jerrod Carmichael, Jason Mantzoukas, Zac Efron, Bob Odenkirk The other night I watched the cult classic film The Room from Tommy Wiseau. The 2003 film is notoriously lauded as one of the worst films of all time. I can attest that the rhetoric behind it is unquestionably true. The performances are terrible, the dialogue is laughable, and there are continuity errors and focusing problems throughout. It’s one of those midnight movies you watch with a crowd to laugh with and revel in its lunacy.Read More →

2013 Twin Cities Film Fest: NEBRASKA

NEBRASKADirector: Alexander PayneStarring: Will Forte, Bruce Dern, Stacy Keach, June Squibb, Bob Odenkirk, Mary Louise Wilson There is something I love about seeing a studio logo in black and white. There is something so timeless and classic about it.Nebraska, the latest from Alexander Payne, is presented in black and white and I can’t conceive of it being in color. I just do not think it would have the same affect. Woody (Dern) believes he has won a million dollars after receiving a sweepstakes certificate in the mail. He is a cantankerous old man who decides to walk to Nebraska from his home in Billings, MontanaRead More →
