BEING THE RICARDOS Director: Aaron SorkinStarring: Nicole Kidman, Javier Bardem, J.K. Simmons, Nina Arianda, Alia Shawkat, Tony Hale, Jake Lacy Writer Aaron Sorkin has tackled trailblazers like Steve Jobs and Mark Zuckerberg. Now he’s peeling back the curtain on Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz at a tumultuous time in their marriage and career in his new film Being the Ricardos. Aaron Sorkin pairs down their extensive life and career into a one-week period from a Monday table read of I Love Lucy through a Friday taping. Movie Review: DUNE

DUNE Director: Denis VilleneuveStarring: Timothée Chalamet, Oscar Isaac, Rebecca Ferguson, Stellan Skarsgård, Zendaya, Josh Brolin, Jason Momoa, Javier Bardem, Dave Bautista, Stephen McKinley Henderson, Sharon Duncan-Brewster, David Dastmalchian One of the most highly-anticipated films of the year is the latest adaptation of Frank Herbert’s classic novel Dune. Writer/director Denis Villeneuve brings Herbert’s world to life in a breathtaking jaw-dropping fashion. The planet of Arrakis is beautiful when the sun is low. It’s rich commodity known as the spice is coveted by all. There are spice harvesters at night and sand worms to test nefarious wanderers. Without the spice, interstellar space travel is impossible so there’sRead More →

Movie Review: MOTHER!

MOTHER! Writer/Director: Darren Aronofsky Starring: Jennifer Lawrence, Javier Bardem, Ed Harris, Michelle Pfeiffer, Domhnall Gleeson, Brian Gleeson You won’t see another movie this year that will leave you scratching your head or digging your nails into your arm like you will during “mother!” Oscar winners Jennifer Lawrence and Javier Bardem play a married couple living out in an old farmhouse in a secluded area. It’s worth noting that none of the characters are actually given names in the movie. The credits give them generic titles like “mother” and “him,” respectively. Bardem is a famous poet looking to find inspiration again. We come to learn thatRead More →

Movie Review: TO THE WONDER

TO THE WONDERDirector: Terrence MalickStarring: Ben Affleck, Olga Kurylenko, Javier Bardem, Rachel McAdamsDirector Terrence Malick is known to be a reclusive, artistic, mysterious type of director. Over a span of his forty year career he has made six movies clearly taking time in between each artistic endeavor. It comes as somewhat of a surprise that his latest, To the Wonder, has been released just two years after his Oscar nominated The Tree of Life. This internal look into life, love, and happiness feels very much like a companion piece to The Tree of Life in tone, style, mystery, and artistry. Unlike some of his other films, the story isRead More →

THE 19th ANNUAL SAG AWARD NOMINATIONS

THE 19th ANNUAL SAG AWARD NOMINATIONS The Screen Actors Guild Award Nominations have been announced! They are usually the strongest indicators of who will be nominated for an Oscar. The SAG winners often times walk away with the coveted Oscar as well. There are always exceptions to that as well. There are only a couple of surprises here. Javier Bardem and Nicole Kidman received nominations beating out the likes of Matthew McConaughey, Leonardo DiCaprio, Amy Adams, or Jacki Weaver. No actors from Django Unchained received any recognition. The cast of Zero Dark Thirty was not recognized even though Jessica Chastain received a Best Actress nomination.Read More →

Movie Review: SKYFALL

SKYFALL Director: Sam Mendes Starring: Daniel Craig, Judi Dench, Javier Bardem, Ben Whishaw, Ralph Fiennes, Albert Finney, Naomie Harris, Bérénice Marlohe Every great Bond movie starts with an action packed opening before the credits start. If it is exquisitely executed, it should give you a taste of what the rest of the movie is going to be like. Sometimes it involves the rest of the plot, and sometimes it stands on its own. Skyfall may have the best opening sequence to date. Bond (Craig) discovers a coveted hard drive has been stolen and a fellow MI6 agent has been shot. He informs M (Dench) overRead More →
